Exploration in the Spirit of Sam Maverick

Samuel Augustus Maverick helped chart the early landscape of Texas, recording routes, boundaries, and the untamed terrain of a growing frontier. Inspired by that same spirit of discovery, the Expedition Series highlights exceptional barrels selected in collaboration with notable whiskey explorers.

The Expedition Series is an ongoing collaboration between Maverick Distilling and internationally respected whiskey blender Irene Tan. Just as Samuel Maverick explored and mapped the vast regions across Central and West Texas, Irene moves through the Fowler rickhouse and Lockwood vault, evaluating the full range of Maverick barrels. Each release reflects her distinct approach to blending, barrel selection, and maturation.

Expedition Release No. 1 is intended not simply as a standalone expression, but as part of a broader examination of Maverick’s whiskey—one shaped by a unique sense of place, process, and perspective. It marks the beginning of that journey.

The Expedition Series No. 1

For the first Expedition release, Irene Tan of WhiskyMentors joined us in Texas to select a remarkable set of barrels aged in our Fowler Ranch rickhouse. The result is a bold, character-driven whiskey that reflects the spirit of exploration that defines the Maverick legacy.
